For the 15th time, the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf will be bringing choirs from all over the world next year to the Allgäu region. The competition is, however, much more than an artistic test of strength for the choirs taking part. As well as a choral competition at the highest international level it is the meeting together of people through music and an exchange of expert views and experience which are in the foreground during the festival period. The choirs will perform together in evening concerts in the region’s most beautiful churches and halls, excursions together, a choral meeting and last but not least the evening celebrations in the festival tent will all offer the singers from different parts of the world the chance to exchange views and get to know each other. The final SchlussaCHORd concert with contributions from all the choirs taking part will present a musical firework.

The Federal Union of German Choral Associations (Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Chorverbände e.V.) invites choirs from all over the world to apply for a chance to take part in the 15th International Chamber Choir Competition 2017 from June 2nd to the 7th 2017. In 2017, the competition will be carried out in two categories:
A – Mixed Choirs
B – Popular Choir Music.

For the first time, therefore, pop and jazz choirs will have the chance to present themselves in Marktoberdorf.

The evaluation will be in two competition rounds – a compulsory programme of max. 20 minutes and a free programme of max. 10 minutes – before an international jury. The maximum number of singers allowed in the competition performances is 32. In addition to prize money for the first three prize winners, thanks to the generous support of a number of partners there will also be a number of special prizes which include a free recording session for a famous classic label. In addition, all choirs admitted to take part will have the opportunity to receive an hour’s coaching with one of the internationally experienced jury members.
Choirs can apply to take part with the necessary material until October 14th 2016. Information as to whether or not your choir is admitted to take part will be sent out at the very latest by November 30th 2016.

Intention

The International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf is intended to bring together the world’s best choirs in order to provide them with the opportunity, not only to compare with each other but also to discuss choral literature from the individual countries, interpretation, styles, voice-training and techniques. Organisation

The International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf is a project of the Confederation of German Choral Associations (BDC e.V.), which incorporates the seven following choral associations:
